Formula and method
Grazing days/paddock = paddock usable forage ÷ herd daily forage use. Paddocks needed = ceil(rest days ÷ grazing days + 1).
The current paddock is included alongside enough additional paddocks to provide the selected recovery period.
Worked example
A 50-head herd using 600 kg DM/day receives about 3.3 days from a 2 ha paddock with 2,500 kg DM/ha at 40% use.
