Animals supported = area × available forage × utilization fraction ÷ (daily animal use × grazing days).
Only the selected usable forage fraction is allocated; the remainder protects recovery and accounts for losses.
Worked example
Twenty hectares with 2,500 kg DM/ha at 40% use provides 20,000 kg DM, supporting about 18 animals for 90 days at 12 kg/day.
